    May 1, 2024

The Tribunal is pleased to report progress under its Backlog Strategy. As at May 1, the Tribunal has 524 open Covid-related cases in its inventory, down from 946 at the beginning of the backlog project. In total, the Tribunal has now closed roughly 68% of its Covid-related cases.

The Tribunal has also made progress in working through the non-Covid related screening backlog. The screening backlog relates to complaints awaiting a decision about whether the Tribunal will proceed with the complaint. Whereas the Tribunal had roughly 2,890 at this stage at the beginning of the strategy, that number is currently at roughly 1,800.

Additionally, progress in the backlog of cases awaiting a decision on a dismissal application. The 294 ATDs awaiting assignment to a Tribunal Member at the start of the project is now down to 59. As a result, the Tribunal is now deciding applications filed under the Case Path Pilot. The Tribunal is extending the Case Path Pilot for a further one year to April 30, 2025 to allow time to gather data in the context of the ongoing process review.
